Portuguese ceramic heritage with an expressive approach to colour, pattern and surface
Aleluia Ceramics began in 1905 as the Santos Mártires Factory, founded by the Aleluia family to produce domestic tableware. Over the following decades, the company evolved through the integration of several historic Portuguese ceramic manufacturers — including Aleluia, Ceramic, Apolo and Viúva Lamego — eventually focusing its production exclusively on ceramic wall and floor surfaces.
Its collections reveal a particularly expressive side of Portuguese ceramics. Alongside stone, marble and wood interpretations, the portfolio explores colour, pattern and shape through saturated and muted tones, geometric compositions, graphic motifs, three-dimensional reliefs and smaller decorative formats. Greens, blues, terracotta, soft pinks and deeper shades extend the palette well beyond conventional ceramic neutrals, giving designers greater freedom to use tile as a defining element within an interior.
Shape and surface are equally important. Geometric formats, structured reliefs and patterned pieces create compositions with rhythm and depth, while selected ranges retain a more artisanal character, with individual pieces still hand-painted. This connection to Portugal’s decorative ceramic tradition is balanced by contemporary production techniques, allowing historical references to appear in a cleaner, more architectural language.
The result is a broad design vocabulary: from quiet, material-inspired surfaces intended to create continuity across larger areas to more graphic, colourful and tactile pieces designed to give walls and floors a stronger identity. This range makes it possible to work with different levels of colour, texture and decoration within a single ceramic portfolio.
Behind this creative breadth is significant industrial capacity. Aleluia is present across five continents and more than 60 countries, with over 70% of its production exported. Six active production lines and one of Portugal’s largest ceramic logistics centres support both international distribution and large-scale project requirements.
