Belgian design shaped by natural materials and living craft

Bazar Bizar was created in Belgium by Eddy Roothaert and Pascale Pelsmaekers, whose background in hospitality informed an instinctive understanding of how furniture, light and objects shape the atmosphere of a space. What began through travel and direct contact with local craft traditions has developed into an extensive interior and lifestyle collection with a recognisable balance between European design sensibility and Southeast Asian workmanship.

The brand works with artisans, small workshops and local communities, preserving techniques based on carving, weaving, shaping and finishing by hand. These relationships are developed over time rather than organised around anonymous mass production. The slight differences in grain, colour, weave or outline are therefore not treated as defects, but as natural characteristics of the material and evidence of the person who made each piece.

Material is central to the identity of Bazar Bizar. Teak and suar wood bring weight, expressive grain and sculptural form to tables, seating and decorative objects. Rattan, abacá, banana leaf and other woven fibres introduce a lighter structure and a more tactile surface, particularly in lighting, chairs, baskets and accessories. Stone, terracotta, ceramics, shells and hand-finished textiles complete a palette defined by warm, natural tones and surfaces that acquire character through use.

The collection is unusually broad. It includes sofas, dining tables, chairs, benches, stools, cabinets and daybeds, alongside lighting, mirrors, rugs, cushions, tableware and decorative objects. This breadth makes it possible to build a complete interior language rather than introduce a single isolated accent. The pieces can be used individually, but their recurring materials and proportions allow furniture, lighting and accessories to sit naturally together.

Lighting is one of the most recognisable parts of the range. Pendant, wall, floor and table lamps are woven or shaped from materials such as rattan, banana leaf, clay and natural fibres. Their open structures filter the light and cast visible patterns across walls and ceilings, giving the fixture a decorative presence even when it is switched off.

The outdoor selection follows the same relaxed design language through teak seating, dining furniture, daybeds, side tables and shade solutions. Materials and finishes are selected according to their intended setting, allowing terraces, pool areas and hospitality spaces to continue the atmosphere of the interior without simply reproducing indoor furniture outside.

Bazar Bizar offers more than a collection of bohemian decorative objects. Its real strength lies in the scale of the portfolio, the direct relationship with skilled makers and the ability to translate natural materials into furniture, lighting and accessories suited to contemporary interiors. The result feels informal and tactile, yet sufficiently considered for residential, hospitality and commercial projects.
