From an automotive insight to a new way of designing the shower

CARIMALI grew out of Calflex, founded in 1985 on the shores of Lake Orta. The company began by producing flexible hoses and components for tapware, gradually building the technical knowledge that would later define its specialisation in shower systems.

A decisive moment came in 1991 from an unlikely source. While observing the wheel covers of the Fiat 500, Calflex recognised how a very thin component could remain both curved and resistant. The same principle was applied to the filter of a showerhead. Separating the outer body from the filter simplified production and made the product easier to open, inspect and maintain. The solution proved commercially important and helped the company establish itself on the American market.

In 1992, Calflex introduced some of the first showers to use anti-scale technology. Universal shower columns followed, along with thermostatic systems and high-flow mixers. Another significant development arrived in 2004 with a range of recessed and wall-mounted showerheads designed to remain inspectable after installation. Easier access to the internal components simplified both fitting and subsequent maintenance.

The CARIMALI brand was launched in 2014, giving a distinct identity to the company’s work in shower design. Its current range includes ultra-slim and recessed showerheads, thermostatic controls, shower columns, body jets and wellness systems that combine several water functions with chromotherapy. These elements can be configured according to the size of the room, the technical requirements of the installation and the finishes selected for the project.

CARIMALI has since expanded into mixers for washbasins, bidets and bathtubs, as well as coordinated bathroom accessories. Products are conceived and developed at the company’s headquarters in Nonio, where materials and production processes are controlled internally.

The brand remains closely connected to the technical culture from which it emerged. Inspectable components, adaptable systems and direct control over production continue to shape its approach to the contemporary bathroom.
