Marble and stone reimagined at large scale — backed by six decades of ceramic heritage
Iris FMG is part of Iris Ceramica Group, one of the most established family-owned names in Italian ceramics. The story began in 1961, when Romano Minozzi founded Iris Ceramica in Fiorano Modenese, at the heart of Italy’s ceramic district. Six decades later, the group brings together a portfolio of complementary brands — including Iris Ceramica, FMG, Ariostea, Fiandre, Porcelaingres, Stonepeak and SapienStone — while remaining under the leadership of the founding family.
Within this industrial heritage, Iris FMG has developed a clear specialization: translating the character of rare marbles, granites and natural stones into high-performance porcelain surfaces at architectural scale.
One of its most distinctive capabilities is found within MaxFine. Select 6 mm slabs can be backlit, allowing light to pass through the surface and reveal the depth of veining, colour and pattern. A capability rarely associated with conventional ceramic surfaces, it opens up striking possibilities for feature walls, reception desks, bar fronts, counters and bespoke architectural elements, where the material itself becomes part of the lighting concept.
Scale is equally important. MaxFine reaches formats up to 300 × 150 cm at only 6 mm thick, allowing large surfaces to be designed with fewer joints and strong visual continuity. With more than 60 finishes and formats, the collection extends from residential floors and walls to hospitality, retail and contract interiors, as well as furniture and custom applications.
Behind the aesthetics is FMG’s Full Body³ porcelain technology. Selected raw materials are compacted under very high pressure and fired at temperatures above 1,300°C, creating a material in which colour and composition extend through the thickness rather than existing only as a decorative surface layer. The result combines the visual depth associated with natural materials with the durability and technical consistency required for demanding architectural applications.
Iris FMG also benefits from the wider material expertise of Iris Ceramica Group. Particularly relevant is SapienStone, launched in 2016 as the group’s specialist brand dedicated to full-body porcelain kitchen countertops. Together, these competencies allow architects and designers to approach floors, walls, furniture surfaces and kitchen worktops within a broader and technically coherent material language, supported by the expertise of the same ceramic group.
This combination is what gives Iris FMG its position: the expressive richness of marble and stone translated into a technically advanced architectural surface system — large in scale, precise in execution and capable of applications that natural materials cannot always accommodate.
