VICAL’s story began in 1949 with wickerwork, willow, wood and traditional basket-making. More than seven decades later, those artisanal roots remain visible in a collection that has expanded to include furniture, lighting, mirrors, textiles, decorative objects and accessories for complete interiors.

The brand’s character comes largely from its approach to materials. Solid and reclaimed woods are combined with stone, marble, metal, glass, natural fibres and richly textured upholstery. Surfaces are often deliberately expressive, preserving visible grain, irregular edges, hand-applied finishes and subtle variations that make each piece feel individual. These are not imperfections to be concealed, but part of the identity of the object.

Its catalogue moves freely between natural, contemporary, ethnic and more decorative influences. Sculptural tables and sideboards sit alongside upholstered seating, cabinets, consoles and occasional furniture, while lighting, mirrors, carpets, cushions and objects complete the composition. This breadth allows a room, or an entire residential or hospitality interior, to be developed through a consistent material and chromatic language.

VICAL is particularly convincing when working with contrast. Raw timber can meet precisely finished metal, mineral surfaces can be softened by bouclé or velvet, and restrained silhouettes can be paired with carved, hammered or irregular details. The result is an eclectic collection, but one held together by warmth, tactility and a strong sense of material presence.

Alongside its extensive in-house portfolio, the brand has begun developing more authored collections with established designers. NARA, created with Francesc Rifé, introduces a quieter architectural language built around natural wood and the rhythm of parallel planes. Shelving, tables and seating are treated as parts of the same spatial system, bringing greater continuity to contemporary interiors without losing the material depth associated with VICAL.

Another distinctive part of the catalogue is its selection of original antiques and recovered objects. Collected during the company’s travels, these pieces are restored while preserving the traces of age, use and origin that make them unique. They can be introduced into contemporary settings as individual focal points, adding a sense of history that newly manufactured furniture cannot reproduce.

This respect for existing materials also informs the company’s approach to production. According to VICAL, approximately half of what it creates involves the reuse or transformation of furniture and materials with a previous life. Craft techniques are used to restore, adapt and return them to use, while FSC-certified products are available within the wider collection.
