Founded in 1964 in Soto de la Marina, Cantabria, Hisbalit is Europe’s oldest manufacturer dedicated exclusively to glass mosaic. More than six decades of specialization have shaped a material language centred on colour, geometry and the distinctive depth and luminosity of glass.
The collections explore mosaic through an extensive spectrum of colours, finishes and geometric formats, from classic square and rectangular tesserae to hexagonal and round shapes. Glossy, matte, iridescent and textured surfaces interact differently with light, while carefully calibrated colours allow compositions to move from subtle tonal fields to contrasting patterns and highly graphic surfaces. Flat tesserae and narrow joints give greater visual continuity to the glass itself, reducing the presence of grout within the overall composition.
This graphic potential extends considerably through Art Factory Hisbalit, the company’s bespoke design service. Colours, patterns, motifs and complete compositions can be developed specifically for a project, turning the mosaic into a custom-designed surface rather than a predefined finish. Geometric patterns, gradients, illustrations and large-scale graphic compositions can be translated into glass, opening particularly interesting possibilities for pools, hospitality, wellness and residential interiors.
The material itself brings important technical advantages. Hisbalit mosaics are manufactured from 100% recycled glass and natural mineral pigments, with zero water absorption and high resistance to sunlight, temperature changes and chemical agents. This makes the same decorative language applicable across swimming pools, spas and wet areas, façades, floors and interior walls, allowing colour and pattern to continue across very different architectural conditions.
Production remains entirely in Spain and retains a strong artisanal component, with mosaic pieces assembled by hand. At the same time, manufacturing incorporates electric kilns and a closed-loop Zero Waste process through which material that cannot be sold is returned to production and transformed into new glass mosaic.
Today, Hisbalit is present in more than 70 countries, combining the reach of an international manufacturer with the focused expertise of a company that has worked with one material for more than 60 years.
