Architectural hardware developed as a complete interior language

Founded in the Netherlands in 1995, FORMANI has developed architectural hardware from a functional necessity into a considered part of the interior. Its collections are conceived around the way people physically interact with a space, from the first contact with an entrance handle to the smaller gestures of opening a window, cabinet or drawer.

The brand’s principal strength is its Total Concept approach. Rather than designing a single door handle and surrounding it with generic accessories, FORMANI extends the same proportions, lines and finishes across door, window and furniture hardware. Depending on the collection, the range can include entrance handles, lever handles, window fittings, sliding-door hardware, cabinet handles, knobs, escutcheons and complementary bathroom accessories. This continuity allows the same design language to run through an entire residence, hotel or commercial interior.

FORMANI develops its collections with international architects and designers, each bringing a recognisable approach to scale, geometry and touch. Collaborations include Piet Boon, Zaha Hadid Design, Gensler, David Rockwell, Lázaro Rosa-Violán, Edward van Vliet and Tord Boontje. The results range from restrained architectural forms to handles with more pronounced sculptural or decorative character, giving specifiers considerable freedom without losing the coherence of a complete hardware system.

The door handle remains the starting point of each collection. Its profile, grip and movement establish the formal direction for the remaining pieces, while careful attention to ergonomics ensures that the design is experienced as much through touch as through appearance. Details such as the transition between handle and rose, the position of the grip and the visual reduction of mounting elements contribute to a more precise integration with doors and furniture.

Material and finish are equally important. Stainless steel provides the basis for many collections, complemented by bronze, satin black, white and a broad selection of PVD finishes, including satin gold, light bronze, champagne, gunmetal and satin black. The thin, hard PVD layer improves resistance to wear and helps preserve colour over time, while retaining the brushing of the metal beneath it. Selected PVD finishes are suitable for both interior and exterior use, making it possible to coordinate entrance hardware with elements used throughout the building.

This combination of complete collections, tactile design and carefully controlled finishes gives FORMANI particular relevance in projects where small details must support a larger architectural idea. Hardware no longer appears as a group of unrelated technical components, but as a consistent layer connecting doors, windows, furniture and selected bathroom elements throughout the interior.
